shindig heroes and flaming accordions [Oct. 22nd, 2006|09:31 pm]
caitlin's now the official banjo-player in the organ trail! she guest-performed with them a few months ago on cello, but now she's an official member. and her first official show with them was this past tuesday in shindig, round one... and they won! which means they're going on to the next round. they managed to mesmerize the judges (and the entire audience) with their hypnotic melodies.

as for me, i've been keeping my accordion warm and humming. i've performed four times in the past month and a half, as an opening act for a raucous krakow rock n roll band. i don't know why they think a girl with an accordion would be a good opening act for them - maybe they're trying to be quirky. but hey, it's been kind of fun. i play for half an hour at the door of the bar while people come in, then wander onto the stage to play a few tunes, mostly pared-down versions of melodia songs. i have to say that performing solo feels terribly lonely. obviously, what i really want is to be doing cool and amazing melodia shows with caitlin. how this will happen, nobody yet knows. caitlin is convinced we should both move to montreal and be reunited there. something tells me that montreal would be kind to melodia, indeed.

Let's sing. [May. 1st, 2005|12:18 pm]
Caitlin just recently purchased a small new Vox amp for the electric guitar Scotia bought this winter from a young man on a street corner. Melodia-style, we are collaborating, preparing for our dream shows this summer! And the amp sounds so great... particularly with the twang at top volume.

open busking season [Apr. 2nd, 2005|08:50 pm]
Although there was a slight chill in the air today, Melodia took their busking repertoire to the Eastern branch of the Planty, in Krakow, where they launched the season by playing some of the folk music they have collected over the past three or four years. It was a beautiful day to be playing outdoors and it felt good to perform in front of someone other than Milo, the cat and a wood fire. Melodia is going to be busking a lot in Vancouver this summer.

snowfall at sunrise [Feb. 2nd, 2005|01:11 am]
caitlin has just joined scotia in krakow, poland, where they are delving headfirst into MELODIA: working on new songs, recording, and practicing their tunes together in preparation for performing.
when will their first performance be?
perhaps early spring, in krakow...
perhaps this summer, back home in vancouver, canada...

we'll announce the info as soon as it emerges.

you can hear our current sounds on the New Music Canada website: http://www.newmusiccanada.com.

for the time being you can catch scotia and caitlin playing in their klezmer band in krakow every first and third sunday of the month at Massolit Books/Cafe, in krakow (ul. felicjanek 4/4).
